Teachers’ Day (TD) is a day where students express gratitude towards the dedication of their teachers, who have played an integral role in their school lives. Both teachers and students get to enjoy fascinating celebrations featuring performances from performing arts CCAs such as Music And Dance (MAD), Guitar Ensemble and Choir, as well as students who have put countless hours of practice into this event.

A big thank you to all teachers once again!

Hwa Chong is one of the few schools which hosts its very own Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations (MAF)! This event is the highlight of Hwa Chong life as it celebrates the kinship between members of the Hwa Chong family, bringing to mind nostalgia for the good times spent together. The most amazing part of the celebrations is the Grand Light-Up, with our self-made lanterns and multi-tiered Centrepiece lighting up the night sky to the tune of music. This is only possible after weeks of practice and preparation so as to make MAF unforgettable for all.  SODACHE is then held under the illumination of the lanterns, bringing everyone together for a fun time through one of Hwa Chong’s oldest traditions. We hope you will join us in our celebrations in the future as part of the Hwa Chong family.

Senior Promenade (Prom) is organized annually for the J2s to mark their graduation from Hwa Chong. Many J2s anticipate this event as a time for them to let their hair down, have fun and create unforgettable memories with their classmates and batchmates. The event features exciting games, performances and prizes! Title nominations such as “Prom King” and “Most Talented” are also awarded to nominees who successfully complete fun and exciting tasks onstage, making it an extremely entertaining night for one and all. A perfect opportunity to enjoy a special night with the people who have made their Hwa Chong journey so special, Prom is an event not to be missed!

Open House is an annual event organized to showcase our school to students who are keen to join the Hwa Chong family! Along with performing groups, Faculty Committees and the Student Council putting up thrilling performances, students get to find out more about life in Hwa Chong from school tours organized by our own students, all of whom are more than excited to share their experiences with you. The self-constructed fountain and sky decorations complement the different CCA banners lining the wings, making the Hwa Chong campus appear vibrant and inviting! Come soak in the atmosphere at Open House and feel the warmth and strength of our Hwa Chong Spirit!

Orientation is an exciting event that every student in Hwa Chong has fond memories of. By marking the start of their JC lives, Orientation is a place for the newly-inducted J1 batch to meet new friends and have the ride of their lives. Highlights of Orientation include thrilling inter-OG games such as Slippery Slope and Battleship and Bombs, the inter-class SODACHE challenge, War Games and the Post-Orientation Party! All of these eventually culminates in an unforgettable Campfire Night, with the Campfire, Fireball and Faculty Flames burning brightly against the night sky. Orientation promises to leave all J1s with great memories which they will treasure for the rest of their time in Hwa Chong.

Chinese New Year Celebrations (CNY) are another event Hwa Chong celebrates annually.

What makes our celebrations special is the bustling street market that provides an array of traditional goodies and food for all to enjoy! See the central plaza transformed into a place of laughter, festivities and delicious cuisine during this special occasion. The celebrations also features a concert with exciting performances by Wushu, Chinese Dance and many others, against the backdrop of a stunning hand-painted city gate which is yet another unique Hwa Chong tradition. With all these festivities, one will definitely feel the cheer that comes with this event we all look forward to!

ELECTIONS

Elections marks the last working event for every batch of councillors, where they pass the baton on to their juniors who will take their place in time to come. It is a challenging period for potential councillors to step out of their comfort zones and push themselves to greater heights. As candidates must vie for the votes of the student population, they put in the utmost in painting banners, creating posters and publicizing their campaign to the rest of the school. Candidates go through a series of interviews, campaigns and a camp before they are truly invested as the next batch of student councillors so as to ensure they are committed and capable in carrying on the legacy of the Hwa Chong Students’ Council.
